Breakwater
…a fanta-sea love story

Dear Friends,

I'm excited to tell you that I've been chosen by a mentor at USC to direct an advanced thesis project this spring. Only a few films are chosen each semester. I've been working on the script since last summer. This is a vast opportunity for me in the process of fulfilling my filmmaking dreams. I've been working hard in the MFA Production program, now entering my third year, and its time to put it all to use.

The film is a fanta-sea love story titled Breakwater. Its about Elena, a Latina surfer girl who's parents divorce, causing her to lose hope for love and fall into a fanta-sea world where mythical creatures challenge her to face her pain and embrace life again. The story is personal and sort of a Wizard of OZ at the beach with an oceanic mythical savor.

I have a creative crew forming with some of the most talented people at USC. The fact is that films cost money. So far, between the Casting Director and the Storyboard artist I've spent over $1,000 already! Camera gear, costumes, props, digital FX, feeding the cast and crew, etc., it all costs. Not only do we need to write, produce and direct, but we also need to raise money for our films. The budget for my 12-minute short is slightly north of $25,000. Thus, the basis of this letter is fundraising.

I'm putting myself out there, taking some huge risks, and I could really use your help. Going back to school at this point in my life is challenging. I've been commuting to LA and keeping up with my colleagues, who are closer to my kid's age.

The graduate program is so demanding that I've had little time for earning money, not to mention the cost of USC tuition. My Dad is the one who encouraged me to follow in the family's Trojan tradition. Sometimes I can feel him cheering me on as I catch this long bomb and run for the goal.

I greatly appreciate any and all help you can offer. Donations are 100% tax deductible by making your checks payable to the University of Southern California and completing the attached form. If you don't need the tax write-off, you can simply make your checks payable to Wendy Milette. Please send all checks to me at: PO Box 4612 Laguna Beach, Ca. 92652.

I am grateful for the people who have made my life so full. I would love to discuss the story with you further, so feel free to be in touch. You can also visit the website for more details. I'm very excited about this project. It's going to take everything I've got, so at the very least please keep me in your prayers, as you are in mine.

Sincere thanks,

Wendy
